Gravity

The holy verse:

God be he exalted says: (Allah, it is He Who has made for you the earth as a dwelling place and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape and made your shapes good (looking) and has provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord: so blessed be Allah, the Lord of the ‘آlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists). [Surat Ghafir, verse: 64].

The explanation of the verse:

Almighty God talks about his graces that He bestowed upon his people. From these graces that He be exalted made the earth settled for its inhabitants and made the sky as a canopy. He also created mankind in the best shape and He provided them with good things.

Ibn Kathir says that (dwelling place) means that the earth is fixed and still, it doesn't shake or move with its people and if it wasn't settled it will be impossible to live on.

Scientific fact:

In the modern era, scientists have discovered that all the planets have gravity that attracts the nearby bodies and the force of gravity is proportional to the mass of this planet and the distance between it and the bodies that it attracts.

Newton was the first one to discover the law of gravity in the 17th century. It was shown that all the cosmic bodies like the sun, moon, planets, stars, and cosmic dust, etc. all have gravitational fields.

Therefore the earth has a gravity field that attracts people to it and because of this gravity the objects are settled on the surface of the earth even the atmosphere. This means that if there wasn't a gravitational field for the earth, the atmosphere would have escaped and faded away in the outer space. Hence, the gravity is the reason for the stability of life on earth.

The point of inimitability:

Through Gods saying: (Allah, it is He Who has made for you the earth as a dwelling place), we notice that God be He exalted told us about the grace of settling the earth and settling the objects on its surface. And the word (dwelling) refers to the stability of creatures on the earth which is an indication to the gravity and that is what scientists have discovered.

This verse was revealed at the time when no one was aware of the importance of gravity and stability on earth which attests to the truthfulness of this Quran and that it is a book from Almighty God.

This is a picture of the earth and the moon appears beside it, and we notice that the earth has a gravitational field that attracts the moon towards it. And without this gravity, life wouldn't have continued on its surface. God be he exalted says: (Allah, it is He Who has made for you the earth as a dwelling place and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape and made your shapes good (looking) and has provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord: so blessed be Allah, the Lord of the ‘آlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists). [Surat Ghafir, verse: 64].
